30 Best Gin Cocktails You Have to Taste

Gin is a strong alcoholic drink with strength of at least 37.5% (according to generally accepted standards). Typically, gin is produced in vertical pot stills and re-distilled after the addition of herbs to the alcohol base.

Gin is made by distilling grain alcohol with the addition of vegetable spices, usually juniper berry, coriander, angelica root, orris root, almonds and others, which give gin its specific taste and aroma.

Also add some citrus fruits: lemon or orange zest. Other herbal supplements that can be used include anise, orris root, cinnamon, coriander, and cassia bark. Regular gin has a very dry taste, and therefore gin is not usually consumed in its pure form. Gin has become a popular addition to a wide variety of cocktails.

The most popular type of gin commonly used in cocktails is London dry gin. The name does not refer to the brand, or the region of origin, it characterizes the cooking process.

The name “gin” is a shortened form of the old English word “gener”. It is related to the French word “genièvre” and the Dutch word “jenever”. All ultimately come from the Latin name for juniper – “juniperus”.

Gin was first made in the Netherlands in the 16th century and is often credited to the physician Francis Silvius. From here, the gin came to England, where over the centuries the recipe was improved and became a classic.
